Meet Kelly Fleming, Registered Physiotherapist (Orthopedic and Pelvic Health) and founder of Northern Pelvic Connection. Northern Pelvic Connection was founded in 2023 after Kelly moved to northern Ontario and recognized a shortage in physiotherapy services, particularly in the area of pelvic health.
Kelly is passionate about meeting the physiotherapy needs of individuals in under-serviced areas of northern Ontario. She is also passionate about creating a sustainable way to meet the pelvic health needs of individuals across remote parts of northern Ontario by providing virtual care. Virtual care helps to break down barriers that prevent persons from accessing care (e.g. inclement weather, travel distance, childcare, mobility issues, illness, white coat syndrome, working full-time, the taboo nature of pelvic health concerns, fear of internal exams, previous trauma, waitlists for care).
As a graduate of the University of Toronto and in good-standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, she continues to strive for excellence with her patients. She has worked in private practice clinical settings as an orthopedic and pelvic health physiotherapist since 2017. She has pursued professional development in several areas including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, pregnancy, labour & delivery (doula), postpartum care, pediatric pelvic floor dysfunction as well as men’s pelvic health. She is rostered and qualified to perform acupuncture and internal pelvic examinations. She has also had the privilege of working with First Nations individuals in their home communities on Manitoulin Island, and has taken courses to learn about the delivery of culturally safe and trauma-informed physiotherapy sessions. Lastly, she believes in taking the time to deliver high quality physiotherapy sessions and looks forward to equipping you with tools to self-manage your concern(s).
Pelvic health physiotherapy is a specialized type of physiotherapy that helps with concerns such as overactive bladder (urinary urgency, frequency, nocturia), incontinence (leakage), prolapse, pain (with sex, pelvic, low back or hip), constipation, bedwetting, urination difficulties, premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. Pelvic health physiotherapy can also help pregnant persons prepare mentally and physically for birth, help new moms rehabilitate optimally postpartum, help individuals navigate menopause and help one prepare for and rehabilitate from abdominal or pelvic surgery (e.g. vaginoplasty, hysterectomy or prostatectomy). Treatment plans are individualized, holistic and tailored to your specific needs, and commonly involve exercises involving the pelvic floor, lifestyle interventions and education, manual therapy, modalities and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
